Halsey: 3/5 Manifesting Generator Chart Reading
This is the second time that I’m doing Halsey’s Human Design chart. The first time, I just finished the first version of The Wild Pixel’s website to Halsey’s Manic (during my own manic episode). Have you seen the first variation of The Wild Pixel? It was a DIY job and cringy (though, are you really stepping out of your comfort zone if your past work doesn’t make you feel weird?) Here’s what it looked like:
The website you’re looking at now was a conscious choice to keep it simple. The font, colors, and logo are professionally designed by this incredible human and her partner. (I used to read her blog when I was nursing a baby, dreaming of my own online business).
So what’s a better way to kick off the updated website than by revisiting the album and artist that got me through the first launch?
Here’s Halsey, one of my favorite modern-day artists:
Quick look at Halsey’s chart
Source of her birth info: she tells us she was born on 9:26 am on 9/29 in the song 929.
Generator type (Manifesting Generator subtype) with sacral authority (Channel 2-14 and 8-1)

If you’re not 110% sure who Halsey is outside of catchy multi-genre songs, here’s a rip from her Wikipedia page:
Ashley Nicolette Frangipane was born on September 29, 1994, in Edison, New Jersey. She played the violin, viola, and cello until moving on to the acoustic guitar when she was 14 years old. She grew up listening to Alanis Morissette, Justin Bieber, and Brand New.
Throughout her childhood, Frangipane's family moved frequently, as her parents worked many jobs. By the time she reached her teen years, she had enrolled in six schools. In high school, she endured bullying by other students, and at 17 she attempted suicide, which led to a 17-day hospitalization. Following this, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder; her mother also struggles with the affliction. Frangipane began using recreational drugs soon after, saying her bipolar disorder caused her to become an "unconventional child". Also, when she was 17, she became romantically involved with a man who was 24 and resided on Halsey Street in Brooklyn. She has said, "That's where I first start[ed] writing music and where I started to feel like I was a part of something bigger than my town in middle of nowhere New Jersey. Halsey is kind of like a manifestation of all the exaggerated parts of me, so it's like an alter ego."
After graduating, she enrolled in the Rhode Island School of Design; however, she withdrew due to financial hardship and attended community college instead. She eventually dropped out of community college and was ejected from her home, saying, "They just didn't agree with a lot of things about me". Soon after, she lived in a basement in lower Manhattan with a group of "degenerate stoners", whom she knew through her then-boyfriend. When she was not living there, she occasionally lived in one of New York's many homeless shelters, and she considered prostitution as a way to make money. When describing this period of her life, Frangipane has said, "I remember one time I had $9 in my bank account, and bought a four-pack of Red Bull and used it to stay up overnight over the course of two or three days, because it was less dangerous to not sleep than it was to sleep somewhere random and maybe get raped or kidnapped." She would occasionally stay with her maternal grandmother.
The Freak of Nature who Inspires Us
When I look at someone’s chart, my eyes usually gravitate toward what makes them a specific type and authority. Halsey is a Generator because of her defined sacral, subtyped as a Manifesting Generator through the channels that link her sacral center to her throat center.
For Halsey, these channels are:
Channel 2-14 (Channel of the Beat)
Channel 8-1 (Inspiration)
The Channel of the Beat and The Channel of Inspiration are from The Knowing Circuit. The key theme of this circuit is empowerment of the self and others. They go hand in hand. When you are able to empower yourself and pull yourself through, others feel inspiration.
Since the Channel of the Beat requires the sacral center’s definition (which is found exclusively in Generators or through conditioning) we’re talking about the strategy to respond. The Knowing Circuit needs something to respond to in order for the domino effect of empowerment and inspiration to begin.
The Channel of the Beat is also called The Keeper of the Keys. Think of a janitor who has a giant keyring full of different keys. Halsey has a set of these keys inherent in her. However, back to the strategy of response, she is unable to know which key she’s supposed to use until she has something to respond to.
If someone approached her and asked her for tips on playing the guitar, she would know the right key to use.
If someone wanted to know about her experience growing up in Jersey, she would know which stories to tell.
I’m also inclined to believe that those with this channel have the ability to open doors for other people. One of my business mentors has this channel and I tease that he always knows somebody. You just have to ask.
However, there’s never a guarantee that the door will be a healthy one. We can easily find that kid who gets mistaken as “a bad influence.” If their group of teenage friends suggest drinking for the first time, they’ll have the key to break into a liquor cabinet. The Channel of the Beat will open the right door for the right kind of trouble.
The Knowing Circuit is deeply rooted in individuality. The weirdos, outcasts, people dubbed as freaks of nature. No wonder Halsey was bullied throughout her childhood.
But, when we move through the G Center (yellow diamond in the center of the chart, related to direction, love, and identity), we see Halsey’s 8-1, Channel of Inspiration. (This channel is also in my chart, so I have a lot of love here).
The Channel of Inspiration is one of the creative channels in The Knowing Circuit. Even though this channel is called inspiration, it’s not about inspiring oneself. It’s about living a life of creativity and contribution, which inspires others.
I always felt drawn to Halsey, even before I knew her backstory because there was something so real about her. Her lyrics were like words I wish I could put to paper. When I found out she also spent time being homeless in NYC and shacked up with older men to have a roof over her head - damn, that hit too close to home. But she got out. That’s important. Here, I’m empowered through her story.
Knowing how The Channel of Inspiration works for me, I’d imagine Halsey doesn’t even feel like she’s empowering others. She just creates because she doesn’t know what else to do. It’s her calling. It’s a part of her.
The Channel of Inspiration will never be for everyone. In order for someone to feel empowered by Halsey (and those with this channel), there must be a piece of recognition. The other side of the coin is are the people who don’t want to hear what Halsey has to say. They roll their eyes, call her fake, or dismiss her work. That’s okay. This isn’t the channel of universal love or anything like that. Halsey is moving in a specific direction, which she may not be consciously aware of (the G center is NOT an awareness center so there isn’t always a conscious knowing). Those who recognize where she’s headed and are open to being changed in the process will welcome her work.
Oh, it’s definitely a process. This leads me to the 3/5 Martyr/Heretic.
Stoking or Putting Out Fires
The 3/5 Martyr/Heretic is close to my heart mainly because I am one and because we are a heavily misunderstood profile. Here, we have children who are unable to accept the world as it is. They need to poke, prod, take apart, question, and disrupt the information. They find alternative truths or discover new things. You can read more about the trials of the 3/5 in this post.
The funny thing about inspiration is that inspiration is never enough. Inspiration is a spark, not a fire.
Halsey, with this profile, will meet many people in her life who will be drawn to the seductive nature of the 3/5. She doesn’t have to try. People will see something special about her just by being in her presence.
“Something about her… can’t put my finger on it…”
But the thing about being a Heretic is that this is all a projection. People will want more and more from her. People will demand her energy. In her youth, like many other 3/5’s, she’ll have spent too much time trying to save people and take care of them, without getting the same respect in return. As she goes through the process of people and relationships coming and going, she’ll learn who is (or isn’t) worth the energy. This is a painful cycle that 3/5’s find themselves in, though this is why they’re also the most resilient profile.
“I tried to help you
It just made you mad
And I had no warnin'
About who you are
I'm just glad I made it out without breakin' down
And then ran so fuckin' far”- Halsey, You Should Be Sad
But when a 3/5 is done, they are done. Bonds make, bonds broken - set on fire and up in flames.
Careful, 3/5 artists, it’s easy to trap yourself in believing that you need to be in pain to create. Halsey’s chart has the Channel of Inspiration, independent of whether she’s feeling up or down. The ability to inspire is always there.
One of the themes Halsey often sings about is being with people she shouldn’t be with, from her camp counselor to other rockstars. Bad at Love was a testament to the relationships that have came and went. However, it will never stop her (or any 3/5, really) from trying to see if it’s there’s an alternative way to make it work. She can’t just accept other people’s truths as her own. She needs to try it for herself, even if she’s been in these cycles already. She’s not making the same mistakes over and over again, she is seeing each new person as a unique, different person, and giving them an honest try.
With this profile, it’s easy to conclude that she’d rather get hurt and nurse her wounds later than live with the regret of never trying. This goes for choices she makes outside of romantic relationships.
P.S. A lot of 3/5’s believe that they will never find something that lasts. That their lives are filled with burnt bridges and regrets. No. 3/5’s are constantly in the process of learning (and hopefully, growing as they learn). The people who are for 3/5’s are the people who are willing to be patient with their learning and open to learning with them.
Right Angle Cross of Service 3
“What’s with the 3, Fiona?” Each Right Angle Cross shows up four times per year. Halsey’s incarnation cross showed up the third quarter of that year. So, you may or may not have the same incarnation cross as Halsey, but when it showed up will also impact the flavor of the incarnation cross.
Before we dive into the meaning of the incarnation cross, let’s look at a few photographs of Halsey because it will reveal a lot about her cross (credit to Huffpost for sourcing these images):
The interesting thing about the G center is that there’s a lot of hoopla about the defined G center (which Halsey has) having a consistent identity whereas the undefined G center has a more varied sense of identity. That's an oversimplification of a complex center. You can see through these photographs that Halsey has an eccentric sense of identity that can’t really be pinned down as just one thing.
Her incarnation cross, Right Angle Cross of Service (18/17 | 52/58) Quarter 3, has a lot to say about the way she presents herself. We’ve already explored the themes of being an outsider or a freak in The Knowing Circuit, so it makes sense that Halsey’s definition of fashion or comfort may incite discomfort in others. People who have the Right Angle Cross of Service 3 have a calling to rectify the gender archetypes of both male and female. They are inclined towards androgyny and may not understand why the world insists on fixed “boy things” and “girl things.”
It’s worse in some countries. When I lived in Okinawa, there wasn’t a huge separation of toys for little boys versus toys for little girls. When I moved back to the states, I was shocked to see toy stores defined by pinks versus blues.
Halsey expresses the feminine and masculine in a way that is juxtaposed. Her identity directly challenges the way we see gender norms. It’s the masculine attire, softened with long hair. It’s the feminine echo to Marilyn Monroe, hardened with tattoos.
“This [cross of] service is going to make the male and female better. Oh, is that a lot of pressure. After all, that is the collective consideration of what males and females should be. God forbid if you’re homosexual in that configuration, or bisexual, because you are going to have a lot of trouble.”
- Ra Uru Hu, Global Incarnation Index
We know Halsey proudly identifies as bisexual. She’s also expressed exhaustion over having to explain herself because when she’s with a man, she’s considered straight and when she’s with a woman, she’s considered a lesbian.
In her collaboration with Alanis Morissette, they wrote the lyrics:
'Cause he and she is her
And her and he are love
And I have never felt the difference
'Cause he and she is her
And her and he are love
A child in all these labels
Halsey’s world truly does not see gender constructs. To her, being in love with a woman is the same feeling as being in love with a man, and she is open to receiving the expressions of femininity and masculinity from both.
Part of her service to her generation (and the generations that will come after her’s) is to challenge the archaic views of society. We all know people who like to say they are smashing the patriarchy because it’s trending on Instagram. For Halsey, it’s woven into her lifelong karma.
Halsey will witness the outdated views of religion, politics, history - the way we live as society - and challenge them. As a 3/5, she will be be under constant scrutiny of not doing enough or punished when she inevitably does something deemed outrageous. She doesn’t have the answers. She can only go through the process and give it a try - but here is where discoverers find new approaches to old concepts. Even if she leaves the music industry or leads a more private life, her work will always have an element of creating a better future for the next generation.
Note: Someone having this incarnation cross does not automatically give someone experience in every form of social justice. We love to look back and ask how our parents were so easily accepting of homophobia and racism, while our generation feels more progressive. Know that the next generation will have similar questions about our generation. This is how humanity continues to grow and do better.
